Mitchell Toyota epitomizes everything wrong with car dealerships. As a single female buyer, I trusted their positive Google reviews, seeking a trustworthy place. What a mistake.
I viewed a filthy vehicle they claimed was “new to the lot.” Despite direct questions about issues or damage, the salesman shared the vehicle was in great shape. They refused to wash it, offering only to 'wipe down the inside.' Post-purchase, I immediately took it to be washed and discovered extensive hail damage - hundreds of tiny dents totaling $12,000 in repairs. These dents were so small they were only visible when reflected in the light and easily concealed by loads of dust. They weren’t visible in pictures or upon first glance.
The bank, upon learning of the undisclosed damage (from me) and being provided with the $12000 quote, rightfully rejected the loan. Mitchell Toyota's response? Trying to corner me into choosing another vehicle or letting them fix the damage, conveniently omitting the option to return the car and refund my $7,500 down payment.
The manager's call beginning with 'there were no shady intentions,' only confirmed their deceit. They failed to wash the car to conceal damage, lied about its condition, misled the bank, and attempted to manipulate me when caught. They only offered to fix the damage after being addressed by the bank. Previously, I was told the damage was reflected in the price (which was about avg. on the market).
Yes, I should've insisted on a wash and done a more proper inspection (that was dumb of me). But their deliberate dishonesty is inexcusable. They saw an opportunity to screw over a buyer and took it. I got really lucky, but others might not. There are lots of other positive reviews here, but please be wary of purchasing from this dealership.
In my most recent experience, Mitchell Toyota doesn't just perpetuate the stigma of dishonest car dealerships - they set the gold standard for it.
